The first ever Coronation Cup Race was run in 1902 to mark the Coronation of King Edward the VII. The Coronation Cup is run over a distance of one mile four furlongs and 10 yards and it is held at the famous Epsom racecourse during the Derby meetings in June of every year. Three famous fillies have all won this great race twice each, Pretty Polly won in 1905 and 1906, Petite Etoile won in 1960 and 1961 and Triptych won in 1987 and 1988, in sheer coincidence all three of three of them won two years on the trot each. The Coronation Cup is for thoroughbreds over four years old and their have been nine winners of this great race for horses only a year after winning the Epson Derby as three year olds, some of these include, Mill Reef in 1972, Roberto in 1973 and Royal Palace in 1968.
