sunbet.com calzaghe boxing win

  • April 23rd, 2008

On Saturday Joe Calzaghe probably boxed himself into the world-class category for the first time when the Welshman beat Bernard Hopkins on a split-points decision.

This won’t be noted in the annuls of Joe’s career as his greatest victory but by defeating a fighter who has shown time and time again to be true great it might be enough to seal his name in the pages of boxing history.

There is no doubt the Italian Dragon has won more impressively but whereas his opponents before have be very good they have not been names that the man in the street will necessarily remember in twenty years.

‘The Executioner’ has been there and done it. Like Calzaghe he was a champion for a long time and has beaten the best. Granted he is now very much at the tail-end of his career but so is Calzaghe and the two were evenly matched.

The manner of the victory was not convincing and getting knocked down in the first round is always a bit of a black mark. But the reason why this will hoist the 35-year-old into the upper realms of pugilist royalty was not whom he beat but the adversity he overcame. He stepped up in weight for the first time conquered the hostile Vegas conditions in his first visit and didn’t let Hopkins inside his head as many have done before him.

Next for the Welshman is probably Roy Jones Jr - a win over him might see the Calzaghe become a legend.

The SunBet, which was in association with Ladbrokes were offering all new customers a free £25 bet, if they placed a bet on any of the listed Sporting events for the weekend, which included the Hopkins v Calzaghe fight.

Champions League Semi Final Preview

  • April 15th, 2008

Manchester United completed a 3-0 aggregate win over AS Roma on Wednesday evening at Old Trafford to join Liverpool and Chelsea in the Champions league semi-finals as the three English teams repeated last season’s success. They will be joined by 2006 winners Barcelona in the semi final, who knocked out German side Schalke 04 by a single goal at home to secure a comfortable 2-0 aggregate victory.

To call this game is very tricky but if I had to pick one I would go with Manchester United simply on their current form and with Ronaldo and Rooney they have 2 players that on current form look unbeatable, Also with Ronaldinho being injured for the rest of the season I think this might be a bit too much for the Spanish outfit deal with.

In the other semi final Liverpool face Chelsea for the third time in four seasons after beating them in 2005 and also last year. And after their epic of a quarter final with Arsenal, Liverpool I feel will just scrape their 2 legged ties with Chelsea as they have had the experience of knocking out Chelsea on number of occasions.
So a Liverpool Manchester United final which has never happened I think is just around the corner.

British Boxer Woods goes to the US for IBO/IBF fight www.ladbroke.com

  • April 14th, 2008

This Saturday another British Boxer takes to the ring this time to defend a World Title. Clinton Woods travels to the states to face American Southpaw Antonio Tarver in an IBO/IBF light-heavyweight unification fight.

ladbrokes

Ladbrokes, ladbroke.com has you covered with all the best odds on this and many other boxing match ups during this month. If you register now with ladbrokes.com you are also entitled to a fantastic sign up football betting bonus!

The 35-year-old Brit travels to the US for the first time since losing to Roy Jones junior inside six rounds back in 2002. Woods, who has won his last six fights isn’t short of power and has knocked out 24 of his 41 opponents.

Tarver, Known as the Magic man, is definitely in the twilight of his career. At the age of 39 a loss against woods could end his career. Has he’s got older some of his power has left him. In his early days opponents very rarely saw the end of the scheduled rounds but recently the man from Florida has relied on points decisions to win his fights. However he has never been stopped and has only lost dour of his 30 fights and the IBO title-holder will offer a real test to Woods.

Sheffield born Woods although powerful may find himself going the distance in this fight. His ageing opponent has never been stopped and in the past, against equally tough opponents, the IBF champ has had to go to the judges to get his wins all be it by wide margins.

On paper Woods should return to Yorkshire with an extra belt around his waist, Tarver has seemed tentative of late and if he shows that again Woods can take advantage.

Man. U v Roma Champions League williamhill.com

  • April 8th, 2008

Manchester United face Roma on Wednesday night n the second leg of their Champions League quarter final tie and the result hinges on the state of two things – United’s back-four and the fitness of Francesco Totti.

william hill

williamhill.com have you sorted for the best odds on premier and champions league matches!

United will be missing Nemanja Vidic who injured himself in the first leg. He’s been such a strong player at the back in the last two seasons that without him United look vulnerable at the back. As shown at the weekend as United conceded two against and dropped two points against Middlesborough.

Rio Ferdinand, who was phenomenal in Rome, is likely to miss the game after limping off in game with Boro. That leaves the highly rated, yet largely untested Gerard Pique leading the line with part time centre-half John O’Shea and although weak in the match a week ago Roma showed enough attacking quality to pose a threat to a makeshift defence.

Which brings us to Francesco Totti who if fit hold the key for Roma. When these sides met in the group stage earlier in the year Totti found a lot of space just in front of the Reds back four and on a different night would have caused more problems but for wasteful finishing.

If Totti is playing than I wouldn’t be surprised if Roma get a result however if the giallorossi’s talisman isn’t fit then the best they can hope for is a draw. Either way a high scoring game could be on the cards.

bet365 premiership forecast for weekend 8 april

  • April 8th, 2008

This weekend has some fixtures that could be do or die for Bolton and Fulham.

bet365

Bet365.com have the best odds on the premiership and will also give all new customers a £100 free bet!

Personally I think if either of them lose the next game they will fall through the trap door and be relegated to the Coca cola championship with the already doomed Derby County has their will be too much to do to get themselves out of it. bet 365.com

Bolton who are 4 points from safety welcomes West Ham to the Reebok stadium whilst Fulham face a tricky trip to Reading who themselves aren’t mathematically safe yet.

Some of the other games have goals written all over them, Newcastle’s trip to Portsmouth and Aston Villa’s trip to Derby County both look like being goal fests especially since Newcastle who now have won 3 on the bounce and Portsmouth who have just made it through to the Fa Cup final are both on highs and Villa who scored 4 at the weekend should have way too much for the Struggling Derby.

Sunday we have another classic with Manchester United welcoming Arsenal to Old Trafford knowing that anything less than a win will give Chelsea the chance to close the gap as they play Wigan on Monday evening at Stamford Bridge.

Predictions
Birmingham v Everton (DRAW)
Bolton v West Ham (DRAW)
Derby v Aston Villa (AWAY WIN)
Reading v Fulham (HOME WIN)
Sunderland v Man City (HOME WIN)
Tottenham v Middlesborough (HOME WIN)
Portsmouth v Newcastle (HOME WIN)
Sunday’s fixtures
Liverpool v Blackburn (HOME WIN)
Man Utd v Arsenal (DRAW)
Monday’s fixture
Chelsea v Wigan (HOME WIN)

Boxing News

  • April 8th, 2008

Mongolian Choi Tseveenpurev finally became world Champion on Saturday night at the age of thirty six.

For Football Betting at bet365.com CLICK HERE

The tough little fighter, has been avoided by World Champions as his awkward style have promoters worried for their prized assets.

His chance finally came in Bolton when Steve Foster Junior pulled out of his rematch with undefeated Derry Matthews for the WBU Featherweight crown.

The undefeated Matthews had never faced an opponent like Choi and seemed to be taken aback right from the bell has the Mongolian ran out of his corner and landed a left hook that rocked the defending champ.

Choi was giving away a good five inches in height but made good use of his ability to get close to his opponent and land right hooks from that Matthews just couldnt see coming. One of these punches landed true in the second round and was the beginning of the end as the only thing stopping the Liverpool fighter going down was the fact he fell into Choi. In the third it was a wonder how the defending champion wasnt stopped three times he was on the canvas as strong right hands found their target again and again.

We didnt have to wait long for the finish though as in the fifth, after again being dumped on the floor, Matthews almost made it to the end of the round only for a strong body shot right on the bell left him down one last time and deservedly gave Choi the belt.

champions league tips Manchester United

  • April 8th, 2008

Manchester United have been installed as the 15/8 favourites to win this seasons Champions League after their win in Rome last week.

For Football Betting at bet365.com CLICK HERE

Undoubtedly the result was impressive but at less than 2/1 Sir Alex Ferguso’s side aren’t particularly backable.

For me the value bet for the Champions league, as we stand at the moment, has to be Chelsea at 9/2. Their price is somewhat inflated as they return from Istanbul trailing Fenebache two-one but that ‘one’ is an away goal and makes all the difference. Chelsea have the strongest home record in the competition and face a side with the worst away record so you would have to fancy the Turk?s advantage will disappear.

United on paper are the form team but they will probably face Barcelona in the semi-final and the Nou Camp is never an easy place to get a result even with Barca missing Messi and Ronaldinho through injury.

Chelsea will face either Arsenal or Liverpool next both are teams they can beat using fortress Stamford Bridge as a base. The blues are also the last team to beat United in a Major final and have a slight hoodoo over the Red devils in recent years. The win against Arsneal in the Premiership recently show manager Avram Grant seems to have learned from his mistakes in previous games against top opposition.

If not Chelsea as European champions then the 7/5 for the Londoners to reach the final certainly must be worth a look.

coca cola championship

  • April 8th, 2008

The Coca-Cola Championship, as usually, is proving the most difficult league to predict even with just three games to go.

For Football Betting at bet354.com CLICK HERE

Thirteen clubs still can mathematically gain promotion with twelve of those with realistic chances. However it seems nobody really wants to go up into England?s elite with team after team gaining the upper hand before crumbling under the pressure.

For now we’ll focus on the chase for automatic promotion. Stoke are currently top the table by one point from West Brom and Bristol City. The other two sides to throw into the mix at this stage are Hull and Watford who both are a point further behind.

For me West Brom have the strongest claims on going up without the aid of the playoffs. Tony Mowbray?s side play excellent football and have the strength in depth and experience to mount a final charge for promotion. The other place is between Stoke and Watford.

Stoke looked to be counting themselves out but seemed to have recovered some fighting spirit away at Coventry over the weekend. Watford meanwhile have been here before and you can’t underestimate how much that can help at end of the season. Hull, although on a good run, may just run out of steam with their small squad, while Bristol City are showing signs of folding and have massively over achieved this season.

When you look how close it is in this league you can see why attendances outside the Premier league are at an all time high.
