Tri Nations Rugby and Williamhill

  • July 24th, 2008

Tri Nations World Champions South Africa came back down to earth last weekend when losing 19-8 to the All Blacks in the opening Tri-Nations Test with good betting odds at williamhill.

After South Africa’s first ever black coach Peter De Villiers who was a surprise choice to replace the World Cup winning coach Jake White first three games this year all ended in victories with williamhill.co.uk.

This weekend’s 2nd test promises to be a pulsating game after former All Black player Craig Dowd labelled the new Springbok coach a Muppet sparking De Villiers to say in a press conference that it may be a racist comment and should be dealt with.

Back to the Rugby and with Australia joining this very hard tournament next weekend with a game against South Africa this weekend’s game for the Springboks is one they must win or they will have a real uphill battle to get a place in the final, so you can do some serious football betting.

With the game being played at Dunedin New Zealand at the notorious Carisbrook ground which is a ground that the All blacks very rarely lose at I don’t give the Springboks a chance to be honest and I fully expect the All Blacks to walk away winners of this game quite comfortably.

Australia who have found that winning again and look a much stronger outfit this year will run the All Blacks very close but it will be the Kiwis who triumph at the end of the day I feel.

Ladbrokes Looks at the British Open

  • July 20th, 2008

Golf’s British Open gets underway at Royal Birkdale this Thursday and with Tiger Woods missing the tournament through injury picking a winner at Ladbrokes will be even more difficult.

The Open is notorious for offering up surprise winners at ladbrokes.co.uk so even without Tiger spotting the champion was always going to be tough.

Annoyingly for anyone having a bet on the outcome at www.ladbrokes.uk what the absence of Woods does do is shorten the  lay betting price of everyone else as they suddenly have a better chance of lifting the Claret Jug.

Case in point of a golfer with a too short price at ladbroke.co.uk is favourite Sergio Garcia. Many punters felt this would be his major but at around 9/1 many have been put off. No doubt the man has talent and was close to winning in 2007 but those odds are far too short for a player never to win a major.

Graeme McDowell will be well supported with Paddy Power offering each-way pay-outs down to seventh place. The Irish bookies go 40/1 for the Scottish Open winner, who during his winning round on Sunday showed some decent shots suited to links golf. South African Tim Clark is also attracting some attention.

Clean ball striking is essential in the Open and he is one of the best around and at 100/1 he certainly is worth a few quid at www.ladbroke.uk for a place. As always in a major expect a Scandinavian to be on the leader board and Robert Karlsson is the man in form in that respects after a good showing in the US Open.

John Best’s Kingsgate Native is one of those heading the market after bouncing back from a disappointing King’s Stand run to claim the Golden Jubilee stakes just four days later at Royal Ascot.

For all the best odds on many sports including Melbourne Cup Odds!

That was the three-year-old’s second group one triumph after victory in the Nunthorpe Stakes last August but his first over six furlongs. As time has gone on the longer sprint may me more suited to him and with the ground expected to be good he’ll enjoy those conditions. If you choose you can also particapate in football betting at ladbrokes.com

Apart from his King’s Stand aberration he is rarely away from the business end of the placings. Joint favouritism is at ladbroke shared with French raider Marchand’ D’or.

The five-year-old found himself sixth behind Kingsgate in the Golden Jubilee at www.ladbrokes.com but has a proven track record in group one contests with a couple of wins and some very good performances to land him in the top three.

Perhaps better suited for ladbroke.com to seven furlongs connections will want the rain to fall to get the ground on the softer side of good - if it does he could reverse the form.

Aiden O’Briens yard has been the form stable at this years major meetings so don’t discount US Ranger, who has been knocking on the door in Group races this season and will be a good each-way bet.

William hill British Grand Prix

An estimated 90,000 Formula 1 fans will flock to Silverstone with most hoping to see Lewis Hamilton or any of the other three British drivers take the chequered flag which is a feat that has not been managed for 8 years, the last person Coulthard took the win in 2000 driving a McLaren.

Place your bets now at www.williamhill.com.

On a further note Fernando Alonso became only the sixth driver in history to pass 500 Championship points which looks like being number seven after here because Raikkonen is on 499 points.

Silverstone is a track that does not benefit any specific car just like Turkey seems to be Ferraris dream course, in the last Ten years Ferrari have won on the course 5 times with McLaren winning 4 with the driver on Pole only winning the Grand Prix twice.

You can also do some football betting at williamhill.com

Although the World Championship did not officially start until 1950, Silverstone is celebrating its 60th anniversary at this year’s Grand Prix after having its first race in 1948.

Now my prediction and tip for the william hill.com race, With Hamilton now a long way off the points I expect Ferrari to have two different set ups in their cars this weekend so they will be able to combat anything McLaren throw at them, because of this I have a feeling Massa who is currently driving better than any time in his career will win the race comfortably with Hamilton and Raikkonen completing the rostrum in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Super League Franchises

  • July 9th, 2008

So when the Super League teams line up for the 2009/2010 season they will have a Welsh Team among their ranks with the Celtic Crusaders getting a franchise license for next season.

British Rugby league decided to go down the Australian route of league organisation and get rid of promotion and relegation and re-market their premier competition as a franchise based league. So with this in mind they put up for grabs 14, three-year, Super League licenses for sides to bid for. Unsurprisingly the current 12 top flight clubs got one leaving five clubs from the lower leagues battling it out for the remaining two places.

Among these clubs were the powerhouses of old, clubs from traditional backgrounds such as Salford, Widnes and Leigh. Also bidding were two sides that could offer expansion for the league in new territories Toulouse in France and Celtic Crusaders based in South Wales.

Salford, with its history and plans for a brand new stadium waltz back into the big time and many expected Widnes to follow. But it seems money talks and the prospect of tapping in to a new audience in Wales was too much for Rugby League bosses to resist.

The decision to include a Welsh team angered both Widnes and Leigh. Both clubs accept it as not them joining the elite but questioned why the governing body had ‘abandoned’ clubs in their heartland. The league responded saying the sport needed to grow but we haven’t heard the last of that story.

English Lower Leagues

  • July 9th, 2008

Having looked at what the Premier League had had to offer with its prices for the new season, I now would like to give a few pointers on how I think the Lower leagues will pan out during the new season that is only a couple of weeks away.

Coca Cola Championship

Birmingham and Reading have deservedly been made favourites for a quick return to the Premiership having both been relegated last season but as teams build their squads for a new season which is surely the most tightly contested league in the world I say look further down the betting with 2 teams that have built very well over the summer.

Norwich city are being touted at around 16/1 with major bookmakers and after the acquisitions of at least 6 new players they could be up there at the end of the season, like wise Nottingham Forest currently 25/1 have signed former Manchester United striker Andy Cole, Robert Earnshaw, and a couple other good looking players so a little each-way bet could be interesting.

League 1

Having nearly recovered from a 15 point penalty to gain promotion last season Leeds United look a sure thing to go up this time round and there price of around 4/1 at the minute should be grabbed as soon as possible. Of the other challengers Leicester City who has the backing of Millionaire Milan Mandorich looks capable of returning to the Coca Cola Championship at the first attempt.

League 2

With a lot of teams being threatened with 15 point penalties or 30 in Luton town’s case this league is pretty much pot luck but if I had to stick my neck out and give you a tip I would have to say have a little stake on Bradford City just because they have a decent squad and are financially sound.

Boxing

  • July 8th, 2008

This weekend a Boxing bout in Vegas will have a couple of high profile British fighters interested as David Diaz and Manny Pacquaio go head to head for the WBC Lightweight title.

For Football Betting at www.williamhill.com CLICK HERE

Both Amir Khan and Ricky Hatton have set their sights on a fight with the winner of the contest and promoters will be lining up to make it happen for either of them. Most likely it will be Amir who will get his wish as the Bolton Boxer is a natural lightweight meaning that Diaz or Pacquaio will not have to make up weight they would in order to take on Hatton. That said it is not a big step up and the lure of a huge payday to fight the ‘Hitman’ may be too strong to resist.

Khan already has his next engagement, although an opponent is yet to be named. He will fight at the MEN Arena in September, which would be perfect timing for either of these two.

The bookies have Manny Pacquaio as odds-on favourite. The 29-year-old has lost just three times in 51 fights and is already a world champion at Super-featherweight. The ‘Pacman’ certainly packs a punch claiming 35 of his 46 wins by way of knockout. He is vulnerable to a well-placed punch, of his three loses two have been knock outs.

But Diaz doesn’t really possess that killer blow with just 17 KO’s but he has only tasted defeat once in 36 fights - but that was inside the distance.
