Ladbrokes Looks at the British Open

  • July 20th, 2008

Golf’s British Open gets underway at Royal Birkdale this Thursday and with Tiger Woods missing the tournament through injury picking a winner at Ladbrokes will be even more difficult.

The Open is notorious for offering up surprise winners at ladbrokes.co.uk so even without Tiger spotting the champion was always going to be tough.

Annoyingly for anyone having a bet on the outcome at www.ladbrokes.uk what the absence of Woods does do is shorten the  lay betting price of everyone else as they suddenly have a better chance of lifting the Claret Jug.

Case in point of a golfer with a too short price at ladbroke.co.uk is favourite Sergio Garcia. Many punters felt this would be his major but at around 9/1 many have been put off. No doubt the man has talent and was close to winning in 2007 but those odds are far too short for a player never to win a major.

Graeme McDowell will be well supported with Paddy Power offering each-way pay-outs down to seventh place. The Irish bookies go 40/1 for the Scottish Open winner, who during his winning round on Sunday showed some decent shots suited to links golf. South African Tim Clark is also attracting some attention.

Clean ball striking is essential in the Open and he is one of the best around and at 100/1 he certainly is worth a few quid at www.ladbroke.uk for a place. As always in a major expect a Scandinavian to be on the leader board and Robert Karlsson is the man in form in that respects after a good showing in the US Open.
