county cricket surrey v lancashire (results report)

  • August 22nd, 2008

Surrey were the team that caught the eye in the first round of cricket’s county championship with an impressive display against Lancashire.

The brown caps bossed the game at the Oval but as usual for this time of year the weather dashed any chance they had of claiming a win and the match ended in the inevitable draw.

Batsman Mark Ramprakash once again asked the question why he still isn’t involved in the England set up with yet another century. Another former England player Mark Butcher was joined by debutante Usman Afzaal in reaching three figures as the London based side dominated their opponents.

It wasn’t all bad news for the roses though as Andrew Flintoff returned to action with both bat and ball and took a wicket in his first spell back in county cricket since his ankle operations. He finished the pick of the bowlers with figures of 1/72 as Surrey closed their first innings on 527/5.

In reply Surrey had Lancs on the rack reducing the visitors to 241/6 with opener Paul Horten offering some residence, out for 59, before the weather called time on the match.

In fact only one game in division one made it to a finish with Nottinghamshire recording maximum points beating Kent by 10 wickets. Elsewhere Murray Goodwin picked up where he left off last season in fine scoring form making a century in Sussex?s draw with Hampshire.

William Hill the Company

Having first come about in 1934 William Hill has grown into one of the best bookmakers both on the high street and on the Internet offering great deals for new and existing customers to get and keep you on board.
William Hills Horse Racing odds are possibly the best around with a great radio tipping service that actually does help the punter unlike a few others that seem to give tips out on horses that literally do not stand a chance of winning. William Hill has experts in many sporting fields that have regular slots around big sporting events giving pointers to who are in form and who is likely to win or get placed.

Honestly out of all the rest it is really hard to find a more reliable bookie than William Hill, with well over 1900 betting offices scattered all around the UK and most recently in Madrid Spain you can rest assured that they have great staff that have all been trained well to help you with any queries over the counters, the largest telephone betting system in the world, an online site which is simple to navigate with an easy and intuitive betting outlook to the customer, Will-Hill’s flexible limits are also very attractive indeed with the option to deposit as low as £2 or as high as £50,000 which goes to prove they really do accommodate all sorts of people with their gambling needs.

This is one site I could not recommend highly enough and have been a member myself for quite a few years.

Paddy Power Sports Book

  • August 22nd, 2008

Ireland’s Number One bookmaker Paddy Power is one of them bookmakers that seem to be trying to outwit many of their competitors with cheeky incentives that seem to be working.

Their ‘money back specials’ are a unique option that many punters especially in the UK seem to be taking up. It works with you placing a bet on many of their daily money back offers which vary from backing a player to score 1st and does not but scores 2nd 3rd or 4th you will receive your stake back, or backing a horse to win but finishes in the top 3 or over the fences and falls you will get your stake back, but checking on a daily basis helps as they are different options available all the time purely because these employees at Paddy Power all seem to very astute gamblers themselves and know what it is like to lose in the final furlong or in the last minute of a Football match.

One drawback to the site is they only accept Euros and British pounds which restricts other punters from around the world that are not used to these currencies and prefer to use their own but on the flip side the security on the site is probably the best anywhere with strict encryption needed on all payment pages proving that Paddy Power are really fighting the rising trend of online fraud.

Too finish if you like a lot of variety in your bets with multiple options then Paddy Power is where you should be at.

Premiership tips

  • August 22nd, 2008

With this year’s Football season now in full swing and all the teams now warmed up let’s look at next weekend’s fixtures and my hopes for the games involved.

For Football Betting at www.ladbrooks.co.uk CLICK HERE

Arsenal who have stuttered at the start of the season especially with Last week’s surprising 1-0 defeat in the London Derby at Fulham must beat Newcastle United at home if they are not to fall further behind early on and I think they will win this by a couple of goals. Other home wins this weekend I think will be at Bolton who host West Brom who are still looking for their first victory, Chelsea who haven’t lost for five years at home in the league should beat Tottenham at Stamford Bridge likewise Middlesbrough at home to new boys Stoke city.
Away wins this week look quite hard to predict but I fancy Portsmouth to win at Everton who look to be really struggling with injuries and form early on in the season, Blackburn look good and should win at West Ham who were very poor at Manchester Cit at the weekend.

I fancy a few draws this week and with Hull hosting Wigan that looks a possible draw likewise Aston-Villa and Liverpool and Sunderland at home to Man-City look certainties to be sharing the points.

Premiership highlights

This weekend’s football fixtures proved that this season the teams that are expected to fight it out at the bottom will make a bigger fight of it than a lot of the teams that have gone down over the years.

Stoke City’ home game with Aston Villa would have been on most people’s coupons as an away win banker but Stoke City showed great determination to beat their more illustrious rivals 3-2 with a injury time winner from striker Mamady Sidibe.

Fulham who also are fancied to face a battle this season overcame Arsenal 1-0 in front of the live TV cameras on Sunday with new defensive signing Hangeland grabbing the all important goal although Arsenal were very poor throughout the game and never really got going.

Hull City who as well as Stoke were made favourites for a instant return to the Coca Cola championship battled to a deserved 1-1 draw away at Blackburn Rovers with striker Richard Garcia equalising after Jason Roberts had opened the scoring for Rovers.

The other promoted side to the Premier League West Brom are still looking for their first points of the season after succumbing to a 2-1 home defeat by Everton with Leon Osman and Nigerian hit man Yakubu giving Everton a two goal cushion before Bednar grabbed a last minute consolation from the spot.

The other games had a few surprises with Sunderland’s 2-1 win over Tottenham at White Hart Lane courtesy of Cisse’s debut strike being the biggest with Spurs now rooted in the bottom 3, Liverpool’s two goals in the last 5 minutes in their home game with Middlesbrough made them early pace setters and Newcastle’s late Michael Owen winner gave them a 1-0 victory over Bolton at home.

Olympics at Williamhill.com

  • August 8th, 2008

With Beijing virtually here and all the athletes taking part all just about tucked up in their beds in the Olympic Village let’s have a look at William Hills betting opportunities for the great event.

For Football Betting at www.williamhill.com CLICK HERE

William Hill have just opened a book titled ‘Olympic Specials’ on their home page and once opened you will see an option of bets that must be placed before 23:59 on August 8th that include who will win the most gold medals, who will win the most medals, how many gold’s Great Britain will win (because it won’t be many) etc.
Most Gold Medals

It isn’t surprising really having the World’s big three medal winning countries China 2/5, USA 7/4, and Russia 20/1 being the only Individual Countries you can bet on, but their offer of 33/1 on any other Country being top on Gold’s especially when you consider the talent Australia have in Swimming maybe worth a punt. USA’s 7/4 is not that bad either and I think I will have a flutter on that one.

One value bet they are offering that might not look brilliant but sure is easy money is Great Britain’s 5/6 on not gaining more than 11.5 Gold Medals which is unbelievable considering personally I do not think they will even gain 5 Gold Medals.

But as the weeks get closer keep checking William Hill because they will be placing more betting options involving the Olympics which I am sure will be value for money.

UK footballs greatest players at bet 365

  • August 1st, 2008

The UK has produced many fine bet 365 football stars over the years and debate will always rage about who is the best.

It’s always hard to compare bet365.co.uk players from different eras; the game has changed so much since the introduction of the premier league.

With that in mind it’s probably best to look at www.bet365.co.uk individuals in their own time. Take for example Gary Lineker probably the finest striker of the mid to late eighties. Never one for the spectacular the former Leicester and Spurs player made a career of being in the right place at the right time with the majority of his goals coming from inside the 18 yard box. It was talent that served him well as he became the England national side’s second all time top soccer.

You can now do some great football betting at Bet 365

Ian Rush was Wales’ Gary Lineker, but perhaps with a bit more skill at www.bet 365.co.uk. His 254 goals for his numerous clubs, including Liverpool and Juventus helped him secure a place in the Welsh sports hall of fame.

Terry Butcher will forever have a place in the hearts of UK footy fans. A big old fashioned centre half he was tough in the tackle and would put him self in harms way rather than concede a goal. Images of his blood soaked England shirt after a deep cut against Sweden in 1989 has become a simple of patriotism beyond the call.

A mention must go to Bobby Moore and bet 365.co.uk. England’s world cup winning captain was the epitome of a defensive rock and it’s debatable whether a defender has matched his fine tackling ability.
