The 2008 Ryder cup may only have just finished but Europe are already priced as odd-on favourites to make American’s hold on the trophy as short as possible.

The defeated Europeans are as short as 10/11 to regain the Cup when the event comes to Wales in two years time despite their 16 ½ to 11 ½ defeat in Valhalla.
But who will lead the side to this apparent glory after both current captain Nick faldo and his deputy Jose Maria Olazabal both said they were unlikely to be in charge when the sides do battle at the Celtic Manor Hotel?
Well golf punters have voted for Ian Woosnam to become skipper for the 2010 tournament, by backing him down to 5/2 second favourite from 5/1 with former odds-on favourite Olazabal moving out to 5/4 from 4/7.
‘Woosy’ was skipper in 2006 when Europe trounced the yanks at the K Club in Ireland and is very popular among the players. The fact he’s Welsh as also had a big effect on his price fall.
Former open champion sandy Lyle is around 6/1 to take the honour while moaning Scot Colin Montgomerie is 10/1; despite the fact he is almost certain to take the role when the competition rolls into Scotland in 2014.
There’s also been interest in the US Captain with 1995 US Open champion Corey Pavin the market leader at 7/2.
