Ballesteros was born in Pedrena, Cantabria, Spain in 1957. He learned the game of Golf while playing on the local beaches near his home mainly using a 3-iron which had been handed down to him by one of his older brothers and turned out to be a masterstroke which changed the Spanish man’s life forever.

However the Golfing and sporting world was rocked this last week with the news that Seve Ballesteros is battling a brain tumour which was diagnosed after the legend of the golf course was rushed to hospital after collapsing at the Madrid Airport.

Although the surgeons have said that the operation was a success fighting an illness like this generally means you will be very ill for a long time and I am sure all the Golfing fans from all four corners of the Globe will be wishing the much liked Spaniard a full and speedy recovery.

The highly decorated golfer who finally hung up his clubs in July when he retired from the game in which he dominated in his prime has said himself that this battle is going to be his biggest and hardest challenge so far in his life and I am sure if anybody can pull through this then it is Seve. The one danger to his condition is how aggressive the tumour is, but fingers crossed it is one of the less damaging and aggressive ones and Seve will be back on his feet in no time sharing that wonderful Spanish smile with us again.
