Some said that cricket originated from a game devised by children living in small farming and metal-working communities in the Saxon or Norman times and was passed on from generation to generation before it was taken up by adults. Definite references have surfaced proving that the game has been around and has been played for hundreds of years and now as a sport played worldwide and enjoyed by many.
In England, they have county championships for the sport, with both four-day and one-day competitions held all at the same time during the summer months. The Cricket World Cup, on the other hand, is conducted every four years and is a one-day competition, organized by the sport’s governing body, the International Cricket Council. Australia has bagged the award these recent years, having won the Cricket World Cup in 1999, 2003 and 2007.
The 2011 Cricket World cup will be the tenth Cricket World Cup and will be hosted in the four Asian Test cricket playing countries – Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh from the months of February to March 2011.
The attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team last March 03, 2009 though, where six members of the Sri Lankan cricket team were injured and where six Pakistani and two civilians were killed, could result to some changes in the schedule.
