This was to be the start of something huge for internet sports betting and gaming as I’m sure most of you know. Obviously Ladbrokes didn’t just start there because we all know that there are Ladbrokes shops everywhere, over 2000 in Britain, Ireland and Belgium to be precise! So how did it all start for Ladbrokes?
Betting has been a popular pastime for hundreds of years now and in the early days betting transactions were made between people! Ladbroke Hall in Worcestershire was behind the name of Ladbrokes the company which was founded in 1902. The company began to grow rapidly and this was even more evident in the 1960’s when the Government legalised betting shops. This gave Ladbrokes the opportunity to expand which led to over 14,000 betting shops being opened by the end of the 1960’s. In the mid 1980’s, Ladbrokes answered to demands by opening over 400 betting shops in Belgium and by the end of the 1980’s, profit for the company was substantial.
The 1990’s saw telephone betting introduced at Ladbrokes which therefore again, increased profits for the company. Ladbrokes does have some big rivals in today’s market but it certainly holds its own. More and more money is being spent on ensuring that they are the best at what they do and with customers in over 200 countries, it’s difficult to believe that they will ever be anything but the best!
