www.totessport.co.uk - With the return after injury of the greatest living golfer of his time I thought it would be a good time to write about one of the greatest Sporting icons of the last twenty years at least.
Tiger Woods was named after his father who fought in Vietnam was saved from certain death by a local Vietnamese worker who 1st name was Tiger. He then vowed to call his 1st son after the person and what a son he has turned out to be.
As well as winning everything in the game of Golf Tiger still has a bit of unfinished business with a few records still to be broken. Woods has also held the number one ranked position in the world for the most consecutive weeks and for the greatest total number of weeks and to be honest I don’t envisage anyone very getting close to. Currently still the World No. 1 player in the World even though he has been injured for months he was the highest-paid professional athlete in 2007 largely due to his massive contract by Nike, having earned an estimated $122 million from winnings and endorsements you would think he would slow down but not tiger, he still plays with the same determination that got him here in the 1st place and with him being only 33 I can see him being around for a good few years yet when you consider some of the ages of the guys on the current PGA tour.
One thing is for sure though and that is the other players better have upped their game while Tiger has been away because he is sure to be very hungry for more silverware and records and that can only be bad news for his rivals.

A 10th-minute goal from Xabi Alonso was enough to end the Blues’ 86-match league run without defeat at their Stamford Bridge home.
The victory kept Liverpool three points ahead of Chelsea atop the table.
The record 18-time champions are the division’s only undefeated team and have 23 points from nine games. Newly promoted Hull are third, also with 20 points.
It is the first time since joining Liverpool in June 2004 that Benitez has won at Arsenal, Manchester United or Chelsea - the only teams to have won the league since 1996.
It is six years since the Reds were leaders at this stage of the season when, after an impressive start, they slumped to finish fifth under Gerard Houllier.
The upcoming match against Portsmouth should see the return of striker Peter Crouch. The towering forward, in good form since joining Pompey, will be determined to show the crowd what they have been missing.
However, Liverpool have been a tough nut to crack at Anfield this season, and will be hoping to continue that with a repeat of the 4-1 scoreline that saw them pick up the three points in the same fixture last season.
What is different this time around is that Tony Adams and Joe Jordan are likely to take charge of Portsmouth after Harry Redknapp’s surprise move to Tottenham over the weekend.

With one lap left and Hamilton ploughing out wide of the bend allowing Vettel to overtake him and leave the British in sixth place it looked like déjà vu repeating itself with Hamilton blowing his chance of the Championship at the same track last year, but this year Hamilton was not going to let his grasp on the title slip so easily and although he has a lot to thank him upstairs for (with the rain) he managed to get past Glock in the Toyota on the last main bend and power up the home straight to take fifth and make him the youngest ever World champion by one single point.
Ferrari’s pit crew had already started celebrating when Hamilton dropped down to sixth knowing that their driver and Hamilton’s only competitor for the crown Massa was about to take the chequered flag at his home grand prix and with only one lap left surely he would be taking the World crown himself as Hamilton did not look quick enough to get past Vettel but what Ferrari did not realise was that Glock who had stayed out on dry tyres was labouring around his last lap and fortunately for Hamilton he was able to just nip by him with seconds to spare to take his maiden championship and leave all Formula 1 fans drooling at the prospect of one brilliant championship next season.

Belgium Grand Prix

This year’s Belgian Grand Prix has provided racing fans from all around the world one truly breathtaking race from start to finish that generally had it all including a driver that started the race in second position dropped to third at the start of the race, not overtake anybody during the whole race but still managed to win the race after the stewards cruelly in my mind stepped in to change the result.

The start did not go well for pole position driver Hamilton who after coming out the first bend in the lead locked up his tyres coming out of a sharp bend at the end of the first lap handing the lead to Ferrari driver Raikkonen who managed to pull away from the British driver in his McLaren and looked like winning the race at a canter opening up a lead of between six and seven seconds for the majority of the race until both drivers came in for their last stops when Hamilton changed to the hard compound tyre which seems to make the McLaren quicker and before you knew it he was right up the back of the Ferrari and with only Two laps left was given a chance to overtake but was forced out wide by Raikkonen and therefore had to go over the wrong part of the track and although he let the Ferrari instantly re overtake him Raikkonen crashed out straight away leaving Hamilton a free run to take the chequered flag and that looked it until well over an hour later the stewards decided to penalise Hamilton with a 25 second penalty (which in my eyes is ludicrous as he let him re overtake him) which dropped the McLaren into third and gave Massa the win which does not seem fair by any stretch of the imagination and makes the championship lead held by Hamilton reduced to only Two points as we head to Ferraris own track of Imola.

Premiership highlights

With the season now up and running it has not took no more than three games for the big boys to rise to the top with all the big 4 Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool all gathering once again around the summit of the Premiership.

Arsenal hosted Newcastle at the Emirates and to be truthful it was all one way traffic with Arsenal rediscovering their form of last season with crisp sharp passing that Newcastle could not live with and the three nil score line with Van Persie scoring two and Brazilian Denilson grabbing the other somewhat flatted Newcastle who could not have moaned if it would have been five or six.

New boys Hull now know what it is like in the Premiership with their wheels coming off big style in a 5-nil reverse at home to Wigan, likewise Stoke City who with then men looked like holding Middlesbrough to a draw until a late Tuncay strike (85) grabbed all the points for the North East club.
Portsmouth enjoyed a three nil win at Goodison park over Everton with their strike force of Crouch (1) and Defoe (2) really starting to gel with the front men grabbing all the goals.
Bolton and West Brom played out a boring nil-nil draw at the Reebok and West Ham delivered a four one beating to ex player Paul Ince who is now manager of Blackburn.

Tri nations 2008 results

Next week’s winner takes all game between Australia and The New Zealand All Blacks in Brisbane could not come sooner for Australian players and fans alike after taking one hell of a hiding against South Africa this weekend in Johannesburg which is their biggest defeat in there Rugby Union history. The Wallabies were also demolished 39-10 by the All Blacks in Auckland at the beginning of August, only to recover and beat the Springboks last weekend at Durban before the embarrassment of this beating this weekend.

The game itself started brightly for the Wallabies who had not won in Johannesburg for forty five years but it did not take long until the Springboks took control with a combination of great attacking rugby and brilliant line out play from the big boys in the South African line up with chief tormentor Jongi Nokwe in only his third cap scoring a sensational four tries (three of which were before half time when the game was just about ended as a contest with the home side leading 27-3) which will surely make the Rugby world sit up and take notice of the Wingers talents.
So with less than two weeks to go until the big one in Brisbane all I can say is I hope for the Australians sake that they turn up with a lot better performance than what they showed in South Africa or they will take a beating off the All Blacks in their own backyard and hand the Tri nations title to New Zealand which will not go down well with the home fans and could see the Australian coaches job up in the air.

The brown caps bossed the game at the Oval but as usual for this time of year the weather dashed any chance they had of claiming a win and the match ended in the inevitable draw.

In fact only one game in division one made it to a finish with Nottinghamshire recording maximum points beating Kent by 10 wickets. Elsewhere Murray Goodwin picked up where he left off last season in fine scoring form making a century in Sussex?s draw with Hampshire.

Although the World Championship did not officially start until 1950, Silverstone is celebrating its 60th anniversary at this year’s Grand Prix after having its first race in 1948.
Now my prediction and tip for the william hill.com race, With Hamilton now a long way off the points I expect Ferrari to have two different set ups in their cars this weekend so they will be able to combat anything McLaren throw at them, because of this I have a feeling Massa who is currently driving better than any time in his career will win the race comfortably with Hamilton and Raikkonen completing the rostrum in 2nd and 3rd respectively.
