Paddypower.ie - Cycling

  • January 2nd, 2009

www.paddypower.ie - Two of the oldest foes in Australian (if not world) cycling are set to team up in one of the grandest spectacles Australian cycling has seen in years.

Robbie McKewen and Baiden Cooke will ride side by side at HiSense Arena for the men’s Madison event at this year’s Revolution 4 Indoor Track Cycling extravaganza.

BET NOW

It’s not the first time the pair have ridden sided by side.

In 2003 Cooke edged out McKewen by just millimetres on the Champs Elysees after the two literally raced shoulder to shoulder in a grandstand finish to the overall green sprinters jersey.

The two (along with Stuart O’Grady and Cadel Evans) are the faces of Australian Cycling overseas and Mckewen has tasted plenty of success in Europe’s toughest two races.

Not only has he worn the green jersey numerous times he has also enjoyed 12 stage wins in the Tour de France and 13 stage wins in the Giro d Italia.

Organisers of Revolution 4 are expecting a sell out crowd to watch the Madison, which is one of the most entertaining races on the cycling card.

Cyclist fly around the track at speeds of over 50km an hour, grabbing the arm of their team mate and ‘slingshotting him’ in a bid to gain maximum speed.

Both Cooke (who was previously a Madison specialist) and McKewen are expecting fierce competition in tonight’s main event.

They are up against dual Olympic gold medalist Graeme Brown who is renowned for being one of the toughest and hardest competitors in the world.

There are also a host of young guns all ready to knock the two international superstars off their perch in what should be a blockbuster event.

Ladbrooks.com - Australian Rugby League

  • January 1st, 2009

www.ladbrooks.com - In yet another blow to Australian Rugby League amidst the fall out from their shock World Cup defeat, coach Ricky Stuart has stood down indefinitely.

Following two weeks of criticism and scrutiny for abusing match referee Ashley Klein in the aftermath of the Kangaroos loss, Stuart was fined $20, 000 by World Cup organizers though the decision to effectively quit as coach was his own.

BET NOW

However it does heighten speculation that his position was already in jeopardy ahead of the Australian Rugby League Board meeting tomorrow in which the incident (and Stuarts’s immediate future as the national coach) was on the agenda.

It may be seen a s a pre-emptive strike by Stuart who accepted the fine and the criticism with unusually good grace – the first person to admit he’d made a pretty big mistake.

The World Cup organizers who handed down the hefty fine also took into account Stuart’s contribution to the international Rugby League scene from his debut as a player in 1986 right up until this unfortunate interest.

Stuart has made a habit of voicing his strong opinions, particularly in the latter half of this year his comments depicting Melbourne Storm players as a protected species incensed New South Wales and Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy to the point to the point where he too was fined for the comments he made in retaliation.

Although Bellamy has his hands full rebuilding a side that has won just one of it’s three consecutive grand final appearances, he will be a hot favourite to take over the top job next year.

Williamhill.com - Manchester United

  • December 31st, 2008

www.williamhill.com - Manchester United may not be looking good for punters after one of its star players, Patice Evra was given a ban of 4 matches and a hefty fine of 15,000 pounds. The Frenchman attached Chelsea groundsman Sam Bethell on the Stamford Bridge after an April game.

BET NOW

That said, Chelsea was also finned 25,000 pounds because of Bethell’s behaviour. Although it was alleged that Bethel’s conduct was racist, the charge was not proved, and he was subsequently cleared of the charge. Naturally, this is much to the delight of Chelsea, who has also denied that Bethell was guilty of any racial discrimination and abuse.

In any case, alleging racism is indeed one of the most serious accusations that anyone can make, and given the serious stance that FA takes towards such allegations, most clubs are careful not to walk that path at all. Many clubs have zero tolerance for racism and appear to work hard to focus on skill and not colour.

The Red Devils are naturally not too pleased about the decision, and has hinted that they may appeal against the FA decision. It does appear that the ban was excessive and biased towards Chelsea.

What this means for both Bethell and Manchester United is that he will miss two Premier Leauge fixtures on December 26 and December 29 at Stoke and Middlesbrough, the third round of the FA Cup at Southhampton on January 4 and the first leg of United’s league Cup’s semi finals.

Until Manchester United makes an appeal against FA’s decision, Bethell will be having a long break for the Christmas and New Year.

Bet.365.com - 2018 Soccer World Cup Bid

  • December 30th, 2008

www.bet.365.com - Australia’s bid for the 2018 Soccer World Cup has received a massive boost with the Federal Government pledging $45 million in tax payers money towards hosting the world’s most watched sporting event.

Australia will have to beat out old foes England and giants U.S.A in order to secure the World Cup, which organizers hope, will finally cement Australia’s place on the world football stage.

BET NOW

Australia is fast becoming a nation renowned for spectacular, world class sporting events following the Sydney 2000 Olympics, the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, the Rugby World Cup and the Rugby League World Cup.

Soccer is the has the highest participation rate of any sport in the world and event organizers not only believe hosting the World Cup in 2018 will raise the profile of the sport here, but also raise the profile of Australia right around the world.

Fotbbal Australia executives have been meeting with Government Officials in Canberra for the best part of the year in an attempt to secure funding.

Though Australia will launch a full-scale bid to secure the World Cup, organizers point out that in the vent that the bid fails, the $45 Million spent on upgrading facilities and luring tourist to Australia will be money well spent either way.

Australian Soccer has undergone somewhat of resurgence since the introduction of the A-League last year and to many the prospect of hosting the biggest sporting event in the world is a very tasty one indeed.

Lasseters.com Review

  • December 29th, 2008

Lasseters.com was a result of a merger of two well known online gaming portals, Gocorp Ltd and Lasseters Casino Pty Ltd. It is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange and prides itself as the first regulated (and licensed) operator.

BET NOW

To cater to different tastes and preferences, lasserts.com has three online casinos, which offers a variety of games including Baccarat, Blackjack, Video poker and even scratchies. Lasseters is a leader on online gaming and has maintained a strong market position for a long time (9 years) until recently.

Sadly, the heydays of Lasseters.com seem to have taken a hit due to the recent prolonged crisis. Perhaps it is due to the shrinking credit market that has prevented Lasseters.com to meet its payment obligations to successful punters, or simply its own investments gone wrong. It’s official explanation on the website given are that operations have ceased due to inability to complete and retain market share price since the closure of the US market in October 2006.

In any case, as of 9 September 2008, the shares of the company have ceased trading, and in effect, the website has also stopped taking bets at the decision of Lasseters.com board of directors. Fortunately, this doesn’t mean that punters with money in their accounts are affected. Gamers with credit in their accounts are still able to take out their money.

In its latest AGM results release, other than re-nominating their director, no news have been heard of opening up the site for punters to use again.

Iasbet.com

  • December 26th, 2008

Iasbet.com like most other online book makers offer sign-up bonuses and refer a friend free bets as well. But as compared to other sites, Iasbet for new signups is comparatively better. Where most sites match your wager towards a free bet, Iasbet simply gives you a $100 free bet for a $50 deposit, yes, it’s a deposit, not a wager made. It gets even better if your first deposit increases to $150 for you get a 20% deposit bonus up to an amount of $200.

PLAY NOW

As for referrals, compared to centrebet.com which offers a $20 credit, Iasbet is comparatively much more generous, giving $50 for each friend referred, unlimited to the amount of referrals as well, which is fantastic, not to mention you’ll probably be helping your mate out with free credits as well.

To ease the pain of losing a bet, Iasbet has a 6% rebate on Hong Kong racing, that goes to say if you lost a 100 bucks, you’ll get a 6 dollar credit to your account, which cuts your losses, especially helpful in our current economic climate I’ll say.

And one of the best promotion or function of this book maker is the availability of credit. You have probably been stuck at wanting to place what you think is a “sure win” but not have the cash available. Well, a credit limit is available to you, but the amount is awarded by Iasbet.com staff.

Lastly, if getting free credits is not your cup of tea, you will be happy to know that with every $200 placed, there are 2 Hamilton Luxury holidays up for grabs, which will probably see you place on more bets, because other than putting your money on your favourite team, you’re in a draw for a chance to reward yourself and your family!

Centrebet.com Review

  • December 25th, 2008

Centrebet (http://www.centerbet.com) is operated by one of Australia largest bookmaker, who is listed on the ASX (CIL). Centrebet.com is the Australian arm, centerbet.co.uk is the U.K. arm while centrebetcasino and centrebetpoker.com offers gaming services.

PLAY NOW

Looking at centerbet.com, the website is clean and easy to navigate, although at one glance, all the information is in your face at once, making it hard to discern the information or link you require. But once you get past that, you will find that the website offers a reasonable experience.

A plus point for Centerbet is that there is no minimum deposit, and there is no charge for international deposits via credit cards, which can prove useful for the high population of foreign residents here in Australia who maintains bank accounts back home.

Another useful feature of centerbet is a dynamic page of the next 6 sports that are available for bets. Mind you, these are not Australian sporting events, but are a myriad of international events that offers you an event that is concluding in hours which you can put your money on.

Lastly, for the blackberry addicts out there, centrebet also has a wap version of their website that can allow the pub goers to place their bets in between their rum and wait for the match to start. This wap version is essentially one and same with the website, but is scaled for mobile phone users. You’ll find it very useful if you have forgotten to put down a bet before heading off to the local drinking hole.

willhill.co.uk - PGA Tour

  • December 22nd, 2008

www.willhill.co.uk - Perhaps Harrison Frazar may finally have his dream come true after finishing the week by leading the 28 players who earned their cards for the next season. He closed with a score of 5 under 67 at the PGA Tour qualifying tournament which is ahead of the other players.

BET NOW

Although hugely experienced, we are talking about 300 times on the PGA tour, he has not won before. Regardless, he gave a superb show and build up a huge lead that even with a double bogey on the final hole, he was still ahead by eight shots at the Nicklaus Tournament course at PGA West.

Another notable player was Notah Begay, who is a four time PGA Tour winner, was only one of the two that qualified for the TPC Stadium course in the final round. Begay barely made it, and even with three straight birdies for a 67, he only made it by one shot.

The other one that survived was Wil Collins who made it to the final stage for his very first time, out of the seven attempts before. No short of finesse, he had a difficult shot with 217 yards to go with mud on his ball. His par butt made it just enough to catch the side of the hole and curl in, giving him the passport to move on.

Another new comer who made it to the tour is James Oh, who made it with only two shots to spare.

Regardless, the upcoming tour will be an interesting one to watch out for, and with many new comers making it, it will be interesting to say the least if anyone of them could upset the more seasoned players.

Williamhill.com - Premiership Highlights

  • December 17th, 2008

www.williamhill.com - After not winning the league for 20 years you feel that Liverpool is doing everything possible to make sure that long wait without winning the League will go on for a few more years yet after once again dropping points in their own backyard.
Before a ball was kicked on Saturday I feel nearly every Football fan in the country (even Hull city fans) would have believed that Liverpool would gain all three points in their home game with Hull but after the away side raced into an early two goal lead it looked far from it, Captain Stephen Gerrard was once again the hero on Merseyside after scoring two goals and should have had more in their 2-2 home draw which leaves them still only one point ahead at the top of the pile.

BET NOW

Chelsea in 2nd also had what looked like a home banker against West Ham but like Liverpool they had to come from behind and had Nicolas Anelka once again to thank in their 1-1 draw. Manchester United travelled to inform Tottenham desperate for a win to hopefully catch up with the leaders but was left frustrated with chances going astray at both ends in their boring 0-0 draw in North London.

Arsenal completed an unlikely four timer after drawing at Middlesbrough, Adebayor giving the Gunners the lead only for old boy Alliadiere to haunt his old employers and get the deserved equaliser in the 1-1 draw at the Riverside.
Aston villa were the only side in the top 5 to win after they beat manager of the month Gary Megson’s Bolton 4-2 at home lifting them up to 4th place in the league.

The two sides at the bottom both looked like sure bets to go down after they both had miserable afternoons, West Brom were thumped 4-0 away at Sunderland and Blackburn were hammered 3-0 away at Wigan.

Williamhill.co.uk - Boxing Headlines

  • December 9th, 2008

www.williamhill.co.uk - In the early hours of Sunday morning GMT Ricky Hattan put his reputation on the line with his light welterweight World Title fight with American/Italian Paulie Malignaggi in the beautiful settings of all the Las Vegas casinos with all the punters sat in the stands craving for a Hattan knock out.

BET NOW

From the start Hattan looked to have surprised his opponent with his fast style which Malignaggi struggled to cope with and found it hard to hit Hattan back with anything worth noting. By the 5th round Hattan looked in total control and began to put on a show for the thousands that had travelled over the Atlantic Ocean to see their hero in action. In the later rounds Hattan really looked like he was enjoying things and started hitting his opponent with crisp but hard combinations that had Malignaggi stumbling around the ring but he avoided the canvas which saved an early stoppage.

By the 11th round Malignaggi had clearly had enough and was failing to offer anything back to the relentless Hattan and the ref called time on the fight through a TKO which left Hattan dreaming of a massive fight next year which could well be his last and I hope it is in a British ring so all his fans can say goodbye properly.

Hatton now looks like he will leave the light-welterweight division in search of a megabucks showdown with Oscar de la Hoya, assuming the Golden Boy beats Manny Pacquiao on December 6, De LA Hoya v Hattan would be one dream send off for everyone.
